I just spent two hours with Lisa, a client who set up her business YouTube accounts years ago and needed explanation of how to access her accounts since Google’s Youtube and Google+ expansion has created a number of profiles she does not need. We explored the maze of Google+ and YouTube accounts to pin point the specific accounts she uses. Thankfully we made it to the light at the end of the tunnel and her YouTube accounts are now in line.
One of the primary reasons why Lisa had problems in finding her YouTube channels was because she had set up a myriad of Gmail accounts over the years that are not associated with the Gmail account she currently uses for her business. This has been problematic as she must sign into an old account in order to access her Youtube channel.
It is critical to understand that Gmail is the mother account. When you create a Gmail account you are actually creating a pathway to Google+ and YouTube, so be sure to create a Gmail that you know will be connected to your business and therefore will be a foundation to your social media profiles. Creating a YouTube and Google+ account under different emails will not only create confusion for you but also for content viewers (not good!). My recommendation is to give lots of thought to your business name and determine if it is a name you will commit to because it will ultimately be the name you use for all branding and contact information, including your Gmail.
