While Facebook has made it much easier to learn information about the people you are communicating with online, it is still important to take extra pre-caution before meeting someone in person for your personal safety.
Always keep in mind that the person you are communicating with could be using a false identity. You just never know! It could be someone who is completely different from who you think you are talking to.
I recommend taking these steps when meeting an online acquaintance in person..
- Study the person’s social media profiles. Do they have friends? What kind of information do they post? Are their photos consistent? Take note of anything that seems inconsistent and questionable.
- Have a phone call before meeting. Ask about their background and make sure everything checks out with the information on their profile.
- Meet at a commercial location. Bring a friend if possible.
Taking these steps can help you know who you are meeting and insure you will be in a safe situation. Have fun meeting people in person and be cautious!
